In 2017, Harriet Butler, founder of Promote Black Business, LLC, creator of the Promote Black Business App, and known throughout the community as AJ the Promoter, launched her mission with a single printed ad page featuring 99 Black-owned businesses in the Atlanta area, supported by an online black-owned business directory called Find Local Businesses.
She produced hundreds of promotional videos, introduced business owners across social media, conducted interviews, and hosted community events, all intentionally building momentum, visibility, and unity to foster a community-driven economy.
Every listing, every video, every event became a steppingstone that paved the way to today: the evolution of that early work into the fully developed Promote Black Business App (PBB App), a platform designed to elevate Black-owned businesses, strengthen community commerce, and power sustainable communities within the New Black Economy.

Our goal is to build a unified economic system that empowers Black communities to create independent, sustainable, and self-sufficient infrastructures. Through collective action and strategic organization, we aim to acquire and own the essential pillars of daily life — land, real estate, gas stations, banks, grocery stores, hospitals, hotels, schools, farms, technology, distribution channels, resources, funding systems, and financial education. This system not only connects communities nationally and internationally under one unified platform designed to strengthen, protect, and advance the Black family and the Black economy, but also contributes to a community-driven economy. Furthermore, by promoting a black-owned business directory, we can align our spending power, leadership, and shared purpose to create a future where ownership is common, opportunity is abundant, and economic security is built by us, for us, while fostering sustainable communities.
